Baker scores first goal for Whitecaps youth on German tour
Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency continued their winning ways during their two-week trip to Germany, as they defeated the U-19 Junior Bundesliga side of FC Energie Cottbus 3-1 on Saturday.
Building on Wednesday’s 2-0 win over FSV Optik Rathenow, Thomas Niendorf’s side jumped out to a two-goal halftime lead following strikes from Ontario’s Jerome Baker and Alex Semenets on a warm and sunny spring afternoon in eastern Germany. Jamaican youngster Keithy Simpson struck early in the second half for the ‘Caps before Cottbus scored a late consolation goal in the friendly contest. Saturday’s result was particularly notable, as Niendorf gave no less than six U-17 players a run out against their German hosts.
